Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to learn about, support, and enjoy Door County's protected lands. That means making our website usable, our preserves welcoming, and our programs inclusive.

Website Accessibility

We're committed to making this website accessible to people with disabilities. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.

This is ongoing work. If you encounter a barrier — something you can't read, navigate, or use — please tell us. We'll fix what we can and work on what we can't.

Preserve Accessibility

Our nature preserves vary widely in terrain. Some have accessible trails; many do not. We're working to improve physical access where possible while protecting fragile habitats.

What you'll find on each preserve page:

  • Trail surface type (paved, gravel, natural, boardwalk)
  • Difficulty level and distance
  • Known physical challenges (stairs, steep slopes, uneven terrain)
  • Parking and facilities information

If you have questions about a specific preserve before visiting, contact us — we're happy to help you plan.

Event Accommodations

We want our events and programs to be accessible to all participants. If you need accommodations — such as ASL interpretation, seating, accessible parking, or materials in alternative formats — please let us know when you register or contact us in advance.

We'll do our best to meet your needs. If an event location isn't accessible for you, tell us — we may be able to offer alternatives.

Feedback

Accessibility is a practice, not a checkbox. We're learning and improving.
