Executive Director

For over 10 years Emily Wood has been a noteworthy leader in the conservation-nonprofit space. Since 2017 she has been the executive director of the authorized affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation in Indiana. In this role she has been a key player in regional conservation efforts like the Great Lakes invasive carp strategy and Indiana’s monarch butterfly conservation plan. Additionally she has served as a wildlife and natural resource conservation advocate working at the local, state and federal level on passing bipartisan legislation such as the Great American Outdoors Act, Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), the reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), and the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act.

Prior to her time in natural resource conservation Emily worked for 12 years in public horticulture specializing in the utilization of native plants. She has served as a horticulturist at the Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens, and at the historic Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Gardens in Indianapolis, IN. She moved into the nonprofit realm in 2013 as the director of a community Green Space program at Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. During this time she also launched a youth professional development program in partnership with the City of Indianapolis providing horticulture maintenance for the city’s pilot green stormwater infrastructure projects.

Emily is an avid hiker, angler, photographer, and native plant enthusiast. She holds a Bachelor of Science in wildlife biology from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

Sara Dennison

Sara Dennison

Membership Coordinator

Sara Dennison joined the Land Trust in August 2024. As Membership Coordinator, she assists the Development Team with membership and donor cultivation to build community support for the Land Trust’s mission. Prior to working for the Land Trust, she spent fourteen years as a college educator, eleven as an administrator within the arts, and as an environmental steward for ten years assisting with an array of sustainability initiatives in Oregon and Northern Minnesota.

Sara has a BFA in writing, a minor in Outdoor Education, an MA with a focus on Composition and Rhetoric from Bemidji State University, and an MFA in writing from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Sara spent her youngest years in the Colorado Rockies then moved to Ellison Bay during her teens. It was in Door County’s wild places that she found a deep love of the natural world and a certain responsibility to honor it through her art and writing and to protect it by becoming a steward and educator. She is delighted to return to Door County and now spends much of her time with a book, camera, or pen in her hands, enjoying local theatre, arts and music or off in the cedars somewhere hiking, skiing or looking for birds.

Amy Dwyer

Administrative Assistant

Amy Dwyer joined the Land Trust as an Administrative Assistant in September 2014, bringing with her a passion for the outdoors and twenty-year history of being a high school secretary. Amy’s responsibilities include maintaining membership records, processing donations, and assisting with our hiking and event programs. She is often the first to answer the phone and looks forward to speaking with members. Amy enjoys camping, is an avid hiker and enjoys kayaking Door County’s waterways, as well as learning more and more about this nature-filled environment. Since moving to Door County from the city she delights in living on a gravel road in the quiet of Ellison Bay.

Carrie Ehrfurth

Carrie Ehrfurth

Land Project Manager

Carrie Ehrfurth joined the staff of the Land Trust in 2021. Carrie works as a Land Protection Specialist, handling land records and assisting with various land protection transactions. A native of Central Wisconsin, Carrie was happy to return to her home state after spending 16 years in Raleigh, NC working as a Historic Preservation Specialist. She will bring her experience with complex real estate transactions to her role at the Land Trust. Carrie earned her B.A. in Art History at Lawrence University, her M.A. in Art and Architectural History at Penn State University, and her MBA at Meredith College. She spends her time hiking, playing disc golf, and restoring a ‘49 Chevy pickup truck with her family.

Brian Forest

Land Protection Manager

Brian joined the Door County Land Trust team in 2023 with over 20 years of conservation experience within organizations such as the Door County Soil and Water Conservation Department and The Ridges Sanctuary. Brian grew up in Institute, just north of Sturgeon Bay. He attended UW-Green Bay where many of his studies and research focused on the natural resources of Door County. Brian earned a Bachelor of Science in Earth Science, with an emphasis in geology and a minor in environmental science. After college, Brian spent time with The Nature Conservancy, as well as working for the Oconto County Land Conservation Department. When not consumed by the activities of his busy kids, Gavin and Gillian, Brian enjoys working on house and yard projects, hiking, kayaking, reading, playing the guitar or relaxing around a campfire.

Communications Coordinator

Lucia joined the Door County Land Trust in 2025 as the Communications Coordinator. Her background in graphic design, fine art, and running her screen printing business, Lightbox, prepared her for her role designing DCLT merchandise and publications, keeping our community updated on DCLT news, and creating other media. She grew up camping and fishing in Wisconsin’s Northwoods with her outdoorswoman mom, exploring the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, and appreciating nature as a subject of her art. Recently, caring for perennials at a landscape nursery and graduating from the Door County Master Naturalist Training set up the foundation for her to support DCLT’s ecological conservation mission.

Jesse Koyen

Jesse Koyen

Conservation Director

Jesse Koyen joined the Door County Land Trust in 2017. As the Conservation Director, he oversees all land acquisition and land management activities at DCLT. Koyen holds a B.S. in Wildlife Ecology & Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Following a year as a research assistant in a climate change wildlife ecology lab at UW-Madison, Jesse served multiple terms in AmeriCorps with the stewardship department of a regional land trust west of Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to joining DCLT, Koyen completed a M.S. in Sustainability Science with a concentration in Climate Change & Water Sustainability at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Since joining DCLT, he has led the update of a new land priority plan, increased the pace of land protection, and conducted several restoration projects supported by federal grants focused on improving habitat for Threatened and Endangered Species.

Communications Manager

Don spent his early life meandering the forests and fields around his family hobby farm in Northeast Wisconsin which imbued him with a fondness of the flora and fauna of the peninsula. A lifelong fascination with art eventually brought him on a winding path to design and marketing. Now, Don is excited to contribute his skills to advancing the mission of the Land Trust. When he’s not immersed in creative projects, you might find him hiking through Door County’s nature preserves, skipping stones, or sketching toadstools.

Tina Lee

Ecological Restoration Manager

Tina comes to us with past experience working for The Nature Conservancy and brings a wealth of knowledge that will help improve critical habitats. As the Ecological Restoration Specialist, Tina fills a critical role by assisting with inventorying species, conducting habitat restoration, mapping, updating land management plans, and implementing other land stewardship activities. Tina has a B.S. degree in Conservation and Environmental Science from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. During her free time, she enjoys canicross, hiking, and biking.

Drew Reinke

Drew Reinke

Conservation Easement Program Manager

Drew joined the Land Trust in January 2015 as the Land Protection Specialist. Drew works with private landowners to acquire new conservation easement properties and steward existing conservation easement properties. A Wisconsin native, Drew spent a significant amount of his youth exploring the outdoors which ultimately led him to the land conservation field. Prior to returning to the Midwest, Drew spent 7 years working in the Pacific Northwest, including 5 years at the Inland Northwest Land Trust in Spokane, WA. Drew’s credentials include a Master of Natural Resources degree from the University of Idaho, a Natural Resource Management degree from UW-Stevens Point and a Master Fly Fishing Certification from his golden retriever friend. Drew and wife Jess enjoying spending their time camping and fly fishing with their favorite buddies, Lupine and Trout.

Kristi Rice

Administrative Director

Kristi joined the Land Trust staff in 2008. As Administrative Director, Kristi oversees the administrative and financial management of the Land Trust. Prior to working for the Land Trust she worked in banking and trust operations. Kristi earned a B.B.A. degree in Finance and Marketing from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Kristi grew up in Sturgeon Bay, and now lives outside of Sister Bay, near the Land Trust’s Three Springs Nature Preserve. She enjoys growing vegetables and flowers on the farm she operates with her husband, Morgan. When not working or farming, she can be found enjoying Door County, cooking, and escaping to big cities.

Cinnamon Rossman

Charitable Giving Director

Cinnamon Rossman joined the staff of the Land Trust in 2012. After five years of coordinating the Door County Land Trust’s communications and events, her responsibilities now include working more closely with members and donors to build community support for the Land Trust’s mission. She has dedicated the majority of her professional career to non-profit fields over the past 15 years, and believes deeply in the power of the arts and the environment. Cinnamon grew up trekking the cedar swamps near Mud Lake, collecting antlers, feathers, skulls and little wonders found along the way. She earned B.A. degrees in Studio Art and in English Literature, both from Alverno College. She spends her time creating art, painting nature, paddling the county’s waters, and putting miles on her hiking boots.

Thomas Stasiak

Land Stewardship Specialist

Thomas, a Door County native, joined the Land Trust as the Land Stewardship Assistant in June 2019. He attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where he was also a collegiate soccer player. Thomas graduated in 2017 with a Bachelors of Science in Geology, perfecting the skills needed for a land stewardship position. Before working with the Door County Land Trust, Thomas worked alongside the United States Geological Survey to create 3D aquifer models in western South Dakota. He is happy to be back home in Door County, and when not in the field for work, enjoys being outside as an avid hiker, mountain biker, and backpacker.

Maddie Tishler

Stewardship Field Coordinator

Maddie joined the Land Trust in April of 2024. Her work as Land Stewardship Field Coordinator includes assisting with inventorying species, controlling invasives, monitoring properties, conducting habitat restoration, and many other stewardship activities. A Door County native, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a B.S. in Biology with an emphasis on conservation and ecology. Before her employment with the Land Trust, Maddie worked for the Washington State DNR at a tree nursery and for the Department of Agriculture doing invasive moth surveys. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends.

Paige Witek

Community Conservation Coordinator

Paige joined the Land Trust staff in January 2023. As the community conservation coordinator, Paige engages the Door County community in meaningful natural resources stewardship, environmental education, and ecological research. She is energized to involve volunteers in the Land Trust’s mission of protecting our peninsula’s land and water. Paige grew up on the west side of Green Bay, loving the outdoors and fascinated by all its creatures. She graduated from UW – Madison with a Bachelor of Science in zoology and a certificate in environmental studies. After a variety of professional and personal experiences in the field, she developed a strong passion for environmental education and connecting people to nature. Before joining the Land Trust, Paige spent five years in Missouri working as an education and outreach coordinator, developing many impactful community programs and partnerships. She is excited to do this meaningful work in her home state of Wisconsin. In her free time, you’ll find her birdwatching alongside her partner, Erik, peering through binoculars to enjoy any bird that flies their way.

Roy Thilly

President

Retired from a career as an attorney and CEO for an electric utility, Roy previously lived in Madison and New York and is a full time resident of Baileys Harbor, in Door County.

A member of the Land Trust since 2006, officer and current chair of the Endowment Trustees Committee, member of the Finance Committee, and board member since 2017, Roy received his Bachelors from Columbia University and Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin.

Deb Hagman-Shannon

President-Elect

Deborah Hagman-Shannon is retired from senior leadership positions in corporate and nonprofit organizations, most recently as Executive Director of Chicago Child Care Society. Deborah resides in Milwaukee, WI and Ephraim, WI.

Newly appointed to the DCLT Board, Deborah holds a Bachelors degree in English from St. Olaf College, a Masters degree in Adult Education from the University of Nebraska, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Management from Claremont Graduate University.

Bob Ling

Treasurer

Bob was born and raised in Marquette, Michigan and is a proud Yooper. Bob and family settled in Orange County California, where they lived for over 20 years. Bob and Heidi moved to Egg Harbor, Door County in 2017.

Bob started his career as a lawyer and is a former partner of the Milwaukee law firm Michael Best & Friedrich. Before retiring he switched to the field of retail groceries and pharmaceuticals, and served as CEO of a large California-based grocery chain for two decades. Bob holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from Tufts University and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.

Meredith Coulson-Kanter

Board Member

Meredith is a Door County native, resident of Baileys Harbor, and owner of the White Gull Inn in Fish Creek. She grew up roaming the woods and beaches of Door County as a student of the Ridges Sanctuary nature classes and later as a Ridges naturalist.

Meredith has a Bachelors degree in Biology from Colby College, a Veterinary Medical degree from Tufts University, and a Masters in Agroecology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. After practicing emergency veterinary medicine for several years in New England and Madison, Meredith returned home to take over the family business and to be surrounded by the spectacular natural beauty Door County offers.

Donna Hake

Board Member

Retired from a career as an organizational development consultant, Donna is a resident of Sturgeon Bay, in Door County.

A member of the Land Trust since 2002 and a board member since 2014, Donna earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in business at Pepperdine University and a Masters degree in organizational psychology at the University of Chicago.

Dave Harris

Board Member

Dave is a financial advisor with RBC Wealth Management. He has lived full-time in the town of Gibraltar since 1977 and serves as the chairman of the Fish Creek, WI Harbor Commission. He is also a member of the Chambers Island Dock Committee. In his free time, Dave manages his wooded acreage for sustainable forestry and finds tranquility at his cabin on Chambers Island.

He serves on both the DCLT Finance & Audit and the Endowment Trust Committees.

Mark Holey

Board Member

A retired fisheries biologist from both the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service working on the Great Lakes and resides in Sturgeon Bay in Door County.

A member of the Door County Land Trust since 2011 and a board member since 2020, Mark received a Bachelors and Masters degree in Fisheries Science and Management from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

Bryan Nelson

Board Member

Currently a small business owner (innkeeper) in Baileys Harbor, Bryan was formerly a professional pilot and boatyard manager. He is a resident of Baileys Harbor, in Door County.

A member of the Land Trust and a board member since 2000, Bryan holds a Bachelors degree in economics from Ripon College.

Anna Pepelnjak

Board Member

Retired from a 40-year career as a litigator in Milwaukee, Anna has been a part time Door County resident and a proud conservation easement holder in Carlsville, where she moved on a full time basis in 2018.

Anna’s educational background includes a Bachelors degree in Political Science from Marquette University and a J.D. from Marquette Law School, together with a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Bob Ryan

Board Member

Bob is a painting contractor living in Clay Banks. Bob and his wife, Sue, moved here from Downers Grove, IL in 1992. He holds a B.S. in mathematics from Illinois Benedictine College (now Benedictine University) in Lisle IL. A member of DCLT since around 1994, he was a neighbor to Dan Burke back in the day.

Rick Scott

Board Member

Rick Scott retired from a career as a chief financial officer in both non-profit and corporate organizations in Minnesota. He has a lengthy history of community service and is a long-term member of the Land Trust. His undergraduate and graduate studies were in international economics, supplemented with language studies.

A St. Paul native, Rick now lives in Sturgeon Bay and the Twin Cities with his husband Dale, a native of Door County.

Deneen Wiske

Board Member

Deneen Wiske joined the Land Trust board in 2025. She is an experienced nonprofit leader currently serving as executive director of Auricle Productions, a nonprofit environmental journalism organization based in Montana. She holds a BS in biology from Old Dominion University, a graduate certificate from the College of William & Mary, and was a research biologist at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science before shifting her focus to the nonprofit sector in 1998. She and her family live full-time in Baileys Harbor.
