Land Stewardship Specialist
Salary: $45,000 - $55,000
About the Position
The Land Stewardship Specialist plays a vital role in the long-term care of Door County Land Trust’s protected lands. This position combines hands-on field work with volunteer coordination and strategic planning to ensure our preserves remain healthy, accessible, and ecologically vibrant.
You’ll work across 3,000+ acres of forests, wetlands, prairies, and shorelines, managing trails, monitoring ecological health, coordinating restoration projects, and leading volunteer stewardship days.
Responsibilities
- Monitor preserve conditions and implement annual stewardship plans
- Maintain trails, kiosks, and preserve infrastructure
- Lead invasive species management and ecological restoration projects
- Coordinate volunteer workdays and stewardship events
- Conduct wildlife and plant surveys
- Assist with conservation easement monitoring
- Manage equipment, supplies, and field logistics
- Collaborate with partner organizations on land management
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, ecology, environmental science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive truck with trailer
- Physical ability to hike rough terrain carrying equipment
- Comfort working independently in the field
- Strong communication skills for volunteer coordination
Preferred:
- 2+ years experience in land stewardship or natural resource management
- Knowledge of Wisconsin native plants and ecosystems
- Experience with GPS/GIS tools
- Chainsaw certification or willingness to obtain
- Familiarity with invasive species control methods
- First Aid/CPR certification
