About the Position

The Land Stewardship Specialist plays a vital role in the long-term care of Door County Land Trust’s protected lands. This position combines hands-on field work with volunteer coordination and strategic planning to ensure our preserves remain healthy, accessible, and ecologically vibrant.

You’ll work across 3,000+ acres of forests, wetlands, prairies, and shorelines, managing trails, monitoring ecological health, coordinating restoration projects, and leading volunteer stewardship days.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor preserve conditions and implement annual stewardship plans
  • Maintain trails, kiosks, and preserve infrastructure
  • Lead invasive species management and ecological restoration projects
  • Coordinate volunteer workdays and stewardship events
  • Conduct wildlife and plant surveys
  • Assist with conservation easement monitoring
  • Manage equipment, supplies, and field logistics
  • Collaborate with partner organizations on land management

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, ecology, environmental science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive truck with trailer
  • Physical ability to hike rough terrain carrying equipment
  • Comfort working independently in the field
  • Strong communication skills for volunteer coordination

Preferred:

  • 2+ years experience in land stewardship or natural resource management
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin native plants and ecosystems
  • Experience with GPS/GIS tools
  • Chainsaw certification or willingness to obtain
  • Familiarity with invasive species control methods
  • First Aid/CPR certification
