Two veteran Land Trust Stewards, Carl Cochrane and Bill Utley, will be leading this popular hike in the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve. The walk will move through two dramatically different ecosystems over about two miles of easy walking on developed trails. There will be several lively and interactive instructional stops along the way, covering several topics about the preserve, including how it came to be protected, its ecological importance, the threats to that ecology, its history from prehistoric to modern times, and its unique geological features. Members of the group will be encouraged to ask questions, which means every walk is somewhat different. Repeat participants are welcome.

About This Preserve

Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve

At 445 acres within Sturgeon Bay's city limits, this preserve protects a remarkable ridge-swale landscape, rare dune plants, and one of the region's most critical neo-tropical migratory bird stopovers — land that once narrowly escaped becoming a coal plant.
