Unravelling Mysteries of Longnose Suckers Through Tagging and Tracking
Join us for a “Lunch & Learn” webinar featuring Dr. Karen Murchie, Director of Freshwater Research at the Shedd Aquarium, as she shares how her research in partnership with the Door County Land Trust (DCLT) is helping to uncover the hidden lives of longnose suckers (Catostomus catostomus) in the Lake Michigan basin. By using small tracking tags, researchers have followed these native fish to discover where they travel, where they return to spawn, and which habitats are most critical to their survival. This collaborative project highlights why these often-overlooked fish matter and how healthy rivers and shorelines support the broader ecosystem we all depend on. Special thanks to the Fund for Lake Michigan for making this work possible.
